Probably because of the exchange rate. From US to GBP is terribly high for Americans. When we spent 5 pounds, we spent 10 dollars at home from our bank accounts.

Go to the grocery store rather than eat out. It saves you costs on your food, and you can actually make what you like. As for Internet--only stay on for about an hour or two so you're internet cafe costs do not overwhelm you. Experience more outside than staying inside on the internet!

I ran out of money very quick and had to call home for more. There's just so much to see and do and you'll want to kodak or have a piece of everywhere you go. Everything is amazing there.

Don't go out to eat a lot, bring everything that you can from home- Toothpaste, shampoo, etc. Have food sent to you if possible!

We went out a lot to see the city. We ate at tons of cool restaurants. We also travelled extensively around Europe so we spent more money eating out and going out in those countries.

No surprises really...you go to London expecting to pay alot. It's just an expensive city. Try not to eat out too much. You can save money by staying in and cooking.
