Food in England is less expensive than in Norway. However, more or less everything else was an increase in expenses. Not because I waste more money abroad but because London overall is a bit more expensive city than Oslo.

My biggest surprise was the difficulty in opening a bank account in London. It is not suited and doesn't seem to welcome international students. In order to get an account you need sufficient proof of adress and papers from your university only gives you a low beneficail and difficult account. It is important that every document you retrieve has your named spelled correctely, otherwise you have to start all over. As for cost-saving, buy the store bands in grossery stores (a lot cheaper than other brands and tastes just as good). Make calls from Skype and try to get a contract on your phone-pay as you go is very very expensive. join web sites for student discounts and try to register for guest lists before going ut, you usually get to pay a lower cover charge.

At home I lived with my parents, so I had no housing and food expenses. In my home country we have a free student travel card all over The Netherlands. In The UK you just get discount on your travel expenses.

London is overall a very expensive city, I was informed about this. I would advice to consider housesharing. I allso had a partime job, for me that was perfect because I earned money, met new people, improved my English and I know how it is to wrk in London.

Naturally, due to exchange rates the cost of comparable goods was higher in London than in Tucson. Housing was less expensive due to the fact that the costs were bundled and specifically aimed at being affordable for the student.

Keep in mind that there will be general, immediate sunk costs involved with housing, food and furnishing that will be incurred. Stay the course, cook your own food, and look for sales to help reduce the total cost.

- Always buy travel cards, monthly or weekly. Still transportation is expensive in London; - Do not have meals in restaurants, if you are a student; - Buy your food at the supermarkets; - Get the supermarket discount cards and vouchers; - If you can get a part-time job.

I spent more than at home because London's cost of life is very high and it is hard not to pay more than in France. I pay for my accomodation each week what I paid each month in France.
