Working on an 8-hour day shift roster as an Electrical Tradesperson at Portland Aluminium, you will join an integrated team reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor. In this role, you'll help ensure the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of all plant and equipment across the Smelter.
You will liaise with internal and external work groups to optimise process and equipment performance by installing, repairing, commissioning, and testing equipment and components. Success in this role relies on strong teamwork, efficient task execution, and a commitment to environmental, health, and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform isolations, commissioning, and initial running checks
* Prepare work scopes and project activities
* Supervise and coordinate projects
* Conduct handovers to and from operations
* Apply technical expertise to identify and eliminate inefficiencies
* Direct and oversee contractors
* Audit work quality

What You Can Bring to the Role
* Recognised Electrical Trade qualification (Australian Apprenticeship, Tradesperson's Rights Certificate, or equivalent)
* Current A Grade Electrical Licence
* Strong technical skills in isolating, diagnosing, analysing, and resolving complex equipment issues
* Experience with PLC systems and motor control (highly regarded)
* Excellent problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills
* Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team
* Experience in heavy manufacturing, industrial, or continuous production environments (advantageous)
* Strong commitment to safety and environmental standards, with active participation in safety initiatives

Our Portland Smelter is a joint venture between Alcoa of Australia (55%), CITIC (22.5%) and Marubeni Aluminium Australia (22.5%). Alcoa manages the day-to-day operations at the smelter and we produce approximately 19 per cent of Australia's total aluminium production in Portland.
