Beschreibung:
We are Covestro. We are curious. We are courageous. We are colorful. We refine chemical material solutions with game-changing products. Let us empower you to push boundaries. Join us and our 18.000 colleagues now and together we will make the world a brighter place.
The global "Digital R&D" (DRD) department is responsible for innovative computer-aided solutions in chemical research and product development. DRD combines expertise in the fields of computer-aided chemistry and materials simulation with capabilities in laboratory automation, data science, artificial intelligence, and high-performance computing. Building on our experience in enzyme engineering for polymer-related applications, we have now begun to apply our unique computational platform to pharmaceutical research. As one of the first experts in this emerging field, you will play a key role in defining the scientific direction, identifying promising applications, and building new expertise at the intersection of computational chemistry and drug discovery.
In addition to our wide range of benefits, as a full-time employee you can expect an attractive starting salary between 77,600 EUR/year and 93,900 EUR/year plus a variable component. The starting salary is based on your qualifications and professional experience.
Your specific responsibilities:
* Designing synthetic routes and carrying out the synthesis of novel small molecules with advanced pharmaceutical modalities, which were designed based on computer-aided predictions
* Managing external synthesis CROs, coordinating delivery schedules for compounds, quality control, and integration into your own convergent synthesis activities to maximize throughput and synthesis capacity
* Organizing the submission of compounds for specialized bioassays and biophysical measurements at external partners
* Working closely with colleagues in computational chemistry and cheminformatics to drive a streamlined "Design-Make-Test-Analyze" (DMTA) cycle
* Contribute to the creation of patentable intellectual property by identifying and validating novel hits and lead compounds
* Identify collaboration opportunities in research on small-molecule active ingredients for advanced modalities in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries, and actively contribute to establishing initial contacts
Here's what will impress us about your profile:
Basic Requirements:
* Ph.D. in medicinal chemistry, organic chemistry, or a closely related field; postdoctoral experience is a plus
* Proven hands-on experience in the synthesis of small-molecule compounds with advanced pharmaceutical modalities, including reactive fragments and chemical probes
* A hands-on, results-oriented approach-the ability to independently initiate and conduct experiments, as well as to deliver compounds of the required quality and on schedule
* A self-motivated and structured work style with a pragmatic focus on scientific progress and problem-solving
Advantageous:
* Comprehensive familiarity with the spectrum of advanced modalities for small-molecule compounds, coupled with a solid understanding of the underlying biochemical processes relevant to modern drug discovery
* Experience with workflows in the early phase of drug discovery (hit identification, hit-to-lead)
* Experience collaborating with or coordinating external contract research organizations (CROs) for syntheses or biological/biophysical assays
* Interest in working in an interdisciplinary, data-driven R&D environment
Soft Skills
* Proactive, entrepreneurial mindset - enjoyment of working in a startup-like environment within a company
* Strong team spirit across disciplinary boundaries
* Fluency in English; German is a plus
* Good verbal and written communication skills
