About the role

The CTO / Infrastructure Domain Architect is a Senior Architecture and people-leadership role within Digital & Technology (D&T), accountable for shaping, governing and evolving the foundational technology capabilities that underpin all digital, data and business platforms at Haleon.

This role owns the architecture across core infrastructure and technology domains, ensuring they are secure by design, resilient by default, scalable at global scale and operable under stress, while supporting rapid innovation and delivery.

The role leads and develops a capability of Solution Architects across multiple technology domains and is accountable for architectural assurance, guidance and standards, ensuring consistency, confidence and safety across the D&T estate.

Working closely with the CTO/CIO leadership team, Cyber Security, Operations, Platform Owners and other Domain Architects, the role ensures Haleon's architecture converges on fewer, strategic technology platforms, delivers end-to-end outcomes, and meets enterprise expectations for security, resilience, continuity and regulatory compliance.

The role brings a global technology perspective, including awareness of regionally distinct technology ecosystems such as China, to ensure architectures are globally scalable while accommodating legitimate local constraints.

Role purpose

To define, govern and lead secure, resilient and scalable technology architectures, while building a strong architecture capability that enables Haleon to operate safely, reliably and at pace in a complex, global environment.
Key accountabilities

The CTO / Infrastructure Domain Architect is accountable for:
· Architecture strategy for foundational D&T and infrastructure capabilities
· Security-by-design and resilience-by-design across the technology estate
· Leadership and development of Solution Architects across core technology domains
· Definition and enforcement of architecture standards, patterns and guardrails
· Architecture assurance, guidance and standards reporting
· Cross-domain alignment with other Domain Architects to ensure coherence
· Reduction of risk and complexity through convergence on strategic platforms
· Executive-level advisory on technology risk, resilience and investment trade-offs

Key responsibilities

1. Foundational D&T Architecture (Security & Resilience First)
· Define domain strategies and target architectures across:
o Integration (API-first, event-driven architectures, middleware)
o Network & Hosting (cloud, hybrid, on-prem, connectivity)
o Data Technology Platforms (data infrastructure, analytics platforms)
o Transactional AI (AI embedded into operational systems)
o Digital Workplace (collaboration, devices, identity, endpoint platforms)
· Ensure all foundational architectures are:
o Secure by design
o Resilient by default
o Recoverable, observable and operable under failure scenarios
o Aligned to risk appetite and regulatory expectations

2. Leadership & Management of Architecture Capability
· Provide line management and professional leadership for Solution Architects across:
o Integration
o Network and Hosting
o Data Technology
o Transactional AI
o Digital Workplace
· Set clear expectations for architectural quality, security, resilience and consistency.
· Build a high-performing architecture capability trusted by delivery teams and senior leaders.

3. Security, Resilience & Continuity-by-Design
· Ensure architectures embed:
o Defence-in-depth security principles
o Availability, capacity and performance engineering
o Disaster recovery and business continuity considerations
· Work closely with Cyber Security, Risk and Operations to ensure:
o Technology designs meet security and compliance obligations
o Platforms remain resilient during incidents, outages and crises
· Ensure resilience is addressed proactively, not retrospectively.

4. Cross-Domain Collaboration with Other Domain Architects
· Work in close partnership with other Domain Architects (Commercial, Corporate Functions, QSC & R&D, ERP) to:
o Enable end-to-end value streams
o Avoid siloed technical decisions
o Promote reuse of shared platforms and patterns
· Contribute actively to architecture governance and decision forums.

5. Strategic Platform Convergence & Simplification
· Drive reduction of technology sprawl and architectural debt across D&T.
· Steer towards:
o Fewer strategic cloud, hosting and integration platforms
o Standardised data and AI foundations
· Challenge bespoke solutions that introduce unnecessary risk or fragility.

6. Architecture Governance, Guidance & Assurance
· Define and enforce architecture standards and reference architectures.
· Own architecture guidance and standards artefacts, ensuring they are practical and consumable.
· Provide architecture assurance for major programmes and platform investments.
· Produce assurance, guidance and standards reports for senior governance forums.

7. Data, Integration & AI Foundations
· Define secure, scalable integration and data architectures enabling:
o Real-time processes
o Trusted, governed data platforms
o Responsible, explainable AI embedded in operations

8. Portfolio, Delivery & Transformation Enablement
· Maintain architectural alignment across programmes, products and platforms.
· Support transformation through:
o Technical debt analysis
o Resilience and risk gap assessment
o Transition roadmaps
· Enable freedom within guardrails for delivery teams.

9. Executive Technology Advisory
· Act as a trusted advisor to CTO, CIO and senior technology leadership.
· Clearly articulate trade-offs around:
o Security vs. speed
o Cost vs. resilience
o Local optimisation vs. scale
· Support long-term technology investment decisions.

10. Architecture Community & Ways of Working
· Lead and mature the architecture community.
· Promote consistent, collaborative architectural decision-making.
· Position Architecture as a strategic enabler of secure and resilient delivery.

What good looks like
· Foundational platforms are secure, resilient and trusted
· Security and resilience are embedded early, not added later
· Fewer platforms support more outcomes
· Architecture standards accelerate delivery safely
· Technology incidents are reduced through better design
· Senior leaders trust architectural guidance on risk and resilience

Qualifications & experience
Essential
· Extensive experience in Architecture roles
· Deep experience across infrastructure, integration and platform technologies
· Demonstrated people-management and capability-leadership experience
· Strong background in secure and resilient system design
· Proven ability to engage and influence senior leaders

Preferred / Nice to have
· Experience operating in large, global, regulated enterprises
· Track record of cloud and platform convergence
· Experience architecting AI-enabled enterprise platforms
· Awareness of region-specific technology ecosystems (e.g. China), including differing cloud, network and regulatory constraints, and their implications for global architecture
