Job Description:
As a Build Engineer in Candy Crush Soda Saga, you'll sit at the heart of how we create, test, and ship the game to millions of players worldwide. You'll own and evolve our build and release pipelines, making sure developers can move fast with confidence across multiple platforms. You'll blend hands-on engineering with problem solving, automation and collaboration - helping teams in Barcelona, Stockholm and beyond deliver high-quality features and content at scale.
King's second largest game, Candy Crush Soda Saga, is loved by millions of players worldwide, matching Swedish fish, rescued Soda gummy bears, and popped soda bottles to win points, defeat obstacles and progress through more than 11,000 levels. We're an iconic team growing a sweeter future for one of the biggest casual mobile IPs in the world through attracting the world's best talent. Our ambition is to continue crushing it for our players when it comes to creativity, product, and technology!
Your Role Within the Kingdom
* Work as part of the Candy Crush Soda Saga organisation, supporting teams in both Barcelona and Stockholm in a central role focused on development pipelines, multi-platform builds and releases.
* Design, build and maintain robust continuous integration / continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines that automate builds, tests and deployments for mobile platforms, using tools such as Jenkins or similar CI systems.
* Develop, improve and troubleshoot build systems using technologies like CMake, Gradle and Bazel ensuring fast, reliable and reproducible builds for C++ and Java-based components.
* Own the build environment end to end: monitor stability and performance, debug build failures, and proactively drive technical improvements and automation.
* Collaborate closely with game developers, shared tech teams and other build engineers across King to design solutions that fit both Soda-specific and shared technology needs.
* Contribute scripts and tooling (for example in Python, Groovy or similar scripting languages) to streamline day-to-day developer workflows and reduce manual effort.
* Champion quality by enforcing good practices in configuration management, versioning, dependency handling, and release processes.
* Share knowledge, documentation and guidelines so that teams can use the build systems effectively and understand how to debug common issues.
* Work largely independently on moderately complex problems, selecting appropriate methods and techniques, while providing regular status updates to your manager and guiding more junior colleagues when needed.
Tech environment (indicative)
* Languages: scripting in Python and/or Groovy; Experience with C++ required (not necessarily expert level); Java is a plus.
* Build / CI tools: CMake, Gradle, Jenkins (or similar CI systems), working primarily in UNIX-like environments. Bazel and Build-Kite is a plus.
* Collaboration: close partnership with cross-functional game teams (engineering, product, analytics, creative) within Soda and with shared technology groups across King.
Skills to Create Thrills
Experience
* Proven experience as a build, infrastructure, or software engineer working with automated build and release pipelines in a professional environment.
* Hands-on background with CI systems (for example Jenkins or similar) for build automation, integration and release workflows.
* Experience with Git workflows
* Track record of working independently on moderately complex technical problems, delivering stable, maintainable solutions and supporting other engineers in day-to-day use of build systems.
Knowledge & Skills
* Strong scripting skills in languages such as Python and/or Groovy, used to automate tasks and build tooling.
* Practical experience with build technologies such as CMake and Gradle, plus comfort working in UNIX environments; Experience with C++ language. Familiarity with Java is a plus but not mandatory.
* Solid understanding of software engineering and configuration-management concepts (dependencies, branching, versioning, reproducible builds, CI/CD, basic performance and reliability considerations).
* Experience with GCP or any other cloud provider is a plus
Key Attributes
* Passionate about programming, build engineering and automation, with a strong sense of quality and continuous improvement in the solutions you deliver.
* Collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to work in a dynamic, collaborative and fun environment and build productive relationships across teams.
* Analytical, curious and keen to grow - you enjoy understanding the tech you work with, spotting opportunities for improvement, and continuously refining tools and processes for the benefit of the wider Soda team.
If you're excited about this role but don't meet every single requirement, we'd still love to hear from you. Skills can grow - your passion for build engineering and collaboration matters most.
