Work Location
This internship is designed to be in person and full-time, but flexible work arrangements at the duty station may be an option, with the agreement of the successful candidate and the internship supervisor.

Duties and Responsibilities
The Secretariat of the UN System Chief Executives Board for Coordination (CEB) is responsible for supporting the work of CEB: the highest inter-agency body for coordination in the UN system on social, economic and related matters. CEB is chaired by the UN Secretary-General and is composed of the executive heads of 31 organizations of the UN system. It aims to advance cooperation and coherence among UN system organizations (specialized agencies, funds and programmes, and other related organizations) in programme and management areas through a coordinated approach on issues of system-wide concern. The NY-based Secretariat also supports the work of CEB's High-level Committee on Programmes (HLCP). HLCP promotes policy coherence and system-wide cooperation, coordination and knowledge sharing in strategic programme areas and in response to emerging challenges of concern to the entire UN system. The Committee's agenda is focused on critical sustainable development issues and global trends and major transitions affecting people and planet. The intern will support the work of the CEB Secretariat by: * Researching and analysing issues of strategic importance for the Secretary-General and/or the United Nations system, including sustainable development, global governance, UN reform, poverty eradication, climate change; * Following and analysing current affairs with regard to relevant topics for the different workstreams of the High-level Committee on Programmes (HLCP), including UN preparedness for the future, the post-2030 agenda and related issues; * Assisting in the monitoring and analysis of the work of UN intergovernmental bodies, including meetings of the 81st session of the General Assembly and its main committees, as well as ECOSOC and its functional commissions, on a wide variety of issues; * Contributing to the substantive and organizational preparation of the meetings of CEB and HLCP; * Drafting correspondence and other communication; * Creating content for the CEB corporate website (www.unsceb.org); * Undertaking other tasks as required.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master's or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor's, Master's or PH.D. Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. Please note that you will have to provide an official certificate at a later stage. Applicants' field of study should be related to international relations, public administration, governance and/or sustainable development. Experience or exposure to UN system-wide coordination, policy-making and decision-making would be an advantage. Experience or exposure in the area of interlinkages between peace and security, human rights and sustainable development and/or the current challenges facing the multilateral system would be an asset. Demonstrated ability to draft/edit summaries in English is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
