About the role

Do you want to be at the forefront of one of the world's most ambitious sustainability initiatives?

Balfour Beatty have created iconic buildings and infrastructure all over the world over the past 115 years redefining excellence and setting the industry benchmark with every project.

As a result, alongside several consortium partners; Balfour Beatty have been selected by bp (British Petroleum) to construct a first-of-a-kind fully integrated gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage which is a key driving force behind plans to make Teesside the UK's first decarbonised industrial cluster.

Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic Assistant Quantity Surveyor to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland.

What you'll be doing

Manage the costs of the works and ensure that their part of the project meets commercial, legal and quality standards with support from more senior members of the commercial team. Responsible for the effective engagement and management of our supply chain within their area. Typically, they will have a quantity surveying degree or be in the final stages of achieving the same on a part-time basis. A Graduate QS will be proactively following the structured training programmes to achieve their professional qualifications from the RICS, ICES or CIOB.

Dimensions

Financial: The Graduate and Assistant Quantity Surveyor will manage all costs and income associated within their area of responsibility on building and civil engineering projects
Organisational: Possibly, depending on capability & experience, have an Apprentice QS as a direct report

Interfaces

Internal: Commercial and wider Project Team
External: Supply Chain and Customers

Accountabilities

Governance

* Good knowledge of and adheres to the Company's governance requirements

Commercial Administration & Management

* Gather data & carry out research on current construction costs

* Measure, record & value work supervised in accordance with appropriate rules and procedures

* Seek out, locate and assemble pre and post contract documentation, complimented with the necessary administration skills

* Understand and utilise weekly and monthly works programmes

* Awareness of different programme formats

* Use the Company's ERP and Digital Systems

* Collation of Cost and Value Information

* Preparation of Cost reconciliation statements

* Measurement of works and agreements with subcontractors

Procurement

* Collect information required to specify procurement requirements

* Record and document information including registration of interest

* Understand the steps / documentation required

Who we're looking for

Essentials - The following qualifications or their equivalent are essential:

* BSc in Quantity Surveying or working towards

* CSCS Card (Academically Qualified)

* Working towards professional membership from the RICS, ICES or CIOB
