Student life is not the same as in England (there are no Student's Union's as such). There are 'fraternities' in Germany, but not like in America. There are parties laid on for 1st year students (Ersti's!) and there is a massively organised bar crawl around the city once per semester (with public transport provided) This is excellent fun mixing student life with local communities. There are lots of good bars: Cafe Schoenborn and Joe Penas amongst the best. Jobs are relatively easy to come by for English speakers as there is a US barracks based in the city and employers like to have English-speaking staff. There are lots of festivals throughout the year. Afrikafest, Rockfest, Wine festivals and beer festivals! Around 5/6 per year. There are jazz cafes, discos, theatres, and lots of nice small bars that are really friendly and welcoming to the student community.

Whenever people came to visit me I always brought them to Schoenborn cafe - best hot chocolate/Struedel/Wurst in town! Go there! Zauberberg is a great place to go on a Thursday night as all the students go there and Boot is also not to be missed (it's a club on a boat!). Make sure you go to pleanty of Grillpartys and trips to the Festung and the Residenz are not to be missed. In the summer the region is reknowned for its wine festivals. Basically, there are pleanty of things worth doing in this town!

The closest disco to the city is "Brazil" even though by far it is not the best (that being "Airport"). The best cafes are all in Juliuspromenade although in Marktplatz the Cafe Schonbrun is extremely nice. Events not to be missed are the Kiliani Fest and the Mozart Festival.

The Boat is a nice place to go. There's also a few nice cafés that i can remember. It was 7 years ago, so I'm having trouble remembering. The main disco was a little out of town and you had to go through the red light district but once you got there it was fun!

Airport nightclub outside of town was great! A big rambling maze of a place (so hold on to your friends tightly!) but with a good atmosphere and a wide variety of music.

Tirili night club under the Studentenwerk is cool, especially on a Friday night. Other than that Boot' the nightclub that literally is on a boat is not to be missed!!
