When you study abroad, you will spend more money on travelling as you go to see new places. At home, I stayed in Oslo most of the time and I didn't go much out as nightlife is very expensive in Oslo. In Grenoble the prices are a lot better and I could spend money in bars etc. without much of a guilty conscience!

Open a French bank account. Do your shopping in "grandes surfaces" such as Carrefour, the prices are lower and it is worth the effort. plus they have EVERYTHING you need, and then I really mean everything!!

Do not open your bank account with LCL bank. They seem to be the best bank for students but in fact you will spend more than you save.
