The UPEM courses are an absolute joke for anyone with even a mediocre standard of french, and better still for those who aren't really bothered, many are offered in english. If you want to learn french, take courses with the french students, that is from the grande école programme. Some can be tricky, many teachers don't make allowances for foreigners, but with the smallest amount of effort you can pass. And a pass is alll that the french students are looking for anyway. I guarantee that the average will never be above 12 out of twenty. Unless you really like accounting, stay away from compta générale. Oral and written exams- the average this year was below ten and all my mates from the football team failed. I passed, by the skin of my teeth. 4 to 6 hours a week, mon and fri mornings, my colleague from Dublin nearly killed me when I told her to take it. Content is simple, but the written exam is simply too long for the french, never mind a foreigner. Fiscalité is no picnic. Strat Fi, 2nd year is apparently difficult, as is controle de gestion 2. Its 1st year equivalent is a joke for anyone that uses his brain. I did FA and got 19. Stay away from the language courses in second term if you're there for the year. Headwreckingly simplistic. FCP in final term is supposedly a joke- no exams- they even go camping. Finance de Marchés is handy enough for a foreigner. Regardless, don't worry about it, choose what you want, and look at it the night before and you'll be fine. There's no great depth in any of these courses. 'On étudiera la veille mon pote' is a phrase you should hear often enough.

The program for foreign students is not streamed. Many foreigners that only started studying french a couple of months before their arrival are put in with others that are practically fluent. If you are part of the latter category, you'll soon be bored. On the other hand. If you take courses with the french, you'll have final exams- so when all the other foreigners are getting drunk, falling in and out of bars and doing god knows what else, you'll be pissed off. That's the price to pay though if you are determined to raise your level.

UPEM courses are easy, as most of them require only a written report and a group presentation for assessment. Even those with exams are painfully simple. To really improve your language, recommend following the ESC courses with the french students, and there is a wide selection of interesting courses. However, most of these are assessed 100% by exam, so you may fins yourself with loads of exams to take at the end of the term while the exchange students party.

If your university accredits them, then take the UPEM courses, as they are the easiest way to get high marks and therefore credits. However, to really improve your French, take the ESC courses.

The UPEM courses were alot easier that the courses I do at home. That's because the work load is so light. That was okay since I wanted to travel. I managed to see nine countries in the four months I spent in Rouen. I did like the fact that I got to study courses that focused on a european perspective. Most of the courses were offered in english. The one's offered in french are taught at a level for people who don't speak much french. If you want to improve your french take some courses in the regular program, but if you're on exchange for a vacation from your home school then take the UPEM courses.

Courses and times were designed to suit the lecturers more and not the students. Course content was good and most of the courses were very interesting. Particularly in 4th year.

Exams followed immediately after lectures and projects so there was no time at all to study. Surely something could be done to improve this system. A little more consideration with regards students life outside college particularly when nearly all the students are living away from home!

I have specialised myself in the area of Finance. The choice of classes in this area is relatively good, but the quality differs extremely. There are classes where you have really to work hard at to show your full credit in order to get a grade above 10 points. But on the other hand I was really dissapointed by some classes where you get 17 or 18 points overall only by filling out a newspaper test or making a short summary about a film.

FLAME courses pretty easy in English and French. Business Graduate easy but a lot of work and quite unorganised (French Style). Dominante "Marketing Produit" seems to be the most interesting and the one with the best equity work/leisure time.
