Telephone systems and technology in general are not quite deeloped at home and the very few companies that offer telephone services take advantage to charge high prices. In Sweden, it seems telecommunications technologies are very advanced and this may have resulted in efficient means of providing this service. This may have been translated into lower cost of production which is eventually reflected in the prices. I think the other expenses cost more because the general cost of living in Sweden is higher than Ghana's. I believe this situation is a reflection of the economic prosperity of both countries.

The best way to save costs, especially on food, is to do your own cooking. Control how much you spend on alchohol and buy a bicycle.

Fly cheap, with RyanAir to Stockholm. Then it is also possible to take a train and/or bus from Stockholm to Umeå but this takes quite long. Try to book the textbooks you need from the library. Ask a friend to book it after you since you can only keep it two weeks per booking. The courses take 4,5 so two bookings in a row should be enough.

I believe it has to do with the standards of living. Back at home, the standards are fairly low and different, but I enjoyed every bit of my stay and was prepared for.
