Overall
The University of Coimbra is an exceptional institution that seamlessly blends rich history with academic excellence. As one of the oldest universities in Europe, it exudes a sense of tradition and cultural significance that is felt throughout its magnificent campus.

The university's commitment to education is evident in its diverse range of courses and programs offered. Whether you're pursuing a degree in the humanities, sciences, or any other field, the University of Coimbra provides a stimulating and supportive environment for learning. The faculty members are knowledgeable, approachable, and passionate about their subjects, ensuring that students receive a high-quality education.

The campus itself is a sight to behold. With its stunning architecture, including the iconic Joanina Library and the University Tower, it feels like stepping back in time. The meticulously maintained courtyards and gardens offer serene spaces for studying or simply enjoying a peaceful moment.

The sense of community at the University of Coimbra is remarkable. The student body is diverse and vibrant, representing a mix of nationalities and cultures. This diversity enriches campus life, fostering an atmosphere of inclusivity and global understanding. Numerous student organizations and clubs provide opportunities for extracurricular activities and personal growth, making it easy to connect with like-minded individuals.

Coimbra, as a city, is the perfect backdrop for a university experience. Its picturesque streets, charming cafes, and lively cultural scene create an inviting atmosphere. The city's historical landmarks, such as the Coimbra Cathedral and the Monastery of Santa Cruz, further enhance the overall ambiance.

One highlight of studying at the University of Coimbra is the unique tradition of the "Queima das Fitas" (Burning of the Ribbons) festival. This annual celebration, where students wear ribbons symbolizing their academic field, is a time of camaraderie and joy, reflecting the strong spirit of unity among students.

Overall, the University of Coimbra is a gem in the world of higher education. It combines a rich history, academic excellence, and a vibrant student community to provide a truly remarkable university experience. Whether you are drawn to its historic charm, diverse programs, or the warm atmosphere of Coimbra itself, this institution offers an unforgettable journey of knowledge and personal growth.

If you can, try to follow classes in the old buildings. They are beautiful!! Do remember though to bring a pillow or something..The wooden benches get hard as stone after sitting on them for 2 hours!!:)

Going to Coimbra was fun, but don' t expect too much though. Most people from outside Portugal will regard to Coimbra as a village. It thrives on the students, there' s not much else. Advice: The Tourist Information is very helpful and they are used to exchange students etc. They are well informed and can get you good information on what to go do and see!

Portugal is small and during wee-ends coimbra get empty; so use your wee-ends to visit the country! Both north and south has cities to see and things to do. Not miss Porto nor Lisbon. Portuguese peolpe is wonderful, they usually speak a good english ('cause they see films in mother tongue) and they know how to receive peolpe. They're always ready to help you, to give tips and to show the beauties of their country.

Generally there's good internet access anywhere you go here and a good way of meeting people is by joining societies. A good one is the rowing society which is really friendly.

Great historical school, in need of updates
Ricardo M
Portugal, Graduate
Law, 2016
Overall
Coimbra and the country are proud to have one of the oldest universities in Europe, the widely known University of Coimbra. Reformed long ago, the Law Faculty is the oldest in the country and a living museum. Great traditional student life is a motive to see the city in first person. It is truly magical and centuries of teaching are still present today.
In terms of teaching, it has the same flow. The Law course is old fashioned and doesn't follow the established rules of practical law, that are taught in Lisbon or Oporto. Coimbra school needs to update itself to our times, refreshing its course with new ways and methods of teaching that can prepare the students to an everyday life in the field of law.
