Personal recommendation
Although bureaucratically the university (and Portugal as a whole...then, maybe not now) left a lot to be desired, my overall experience was very good and my language skills were excellent, which says a lot for the university and the people

Final comments
Delve into every experience you can. The first few months/weeks were difficult for me but the good times ahead are definitely worth the wait! It just takes a bit of time to adapt to a new culture and language but once the basic skills are mastered, the happiness begins!

I chose the room I stayed in independently and was not too fussy at the time. I much enjoyed living with other Portuguese girls (2) as this gave me an immediate taste of how people live there.

"Queima das Fitas" is a festival which usually takes place in May and which marks the end of the academic year and graduation. Bars, restaurants and cafes are scattered throughout the town and i've never had a bad experience! Portuguese coffee is without a doubt the best in the world.
