It is a good help to have someone who guides you one week before starting the courses. I did not, and faced several difficulties due to ignorance and cultural differences.

There may certainly be better universities with more intense Erasmus life, but at the end one loves it...

The city is small, everything is reachable within foot or bike distance. People there can be disappointing. Some locals are really nice, but some others do not show any enthusiasm for foreigners nor exchange students. Nevertheless, as usual, you hang out with international people and just a few locals. Life in Karlsruhe is cheap, and due to its location in the very center of Europe, you can travel everywhere. Nightlife is, in my opinion, good when you go to Student parties - clubs here are not Ibiza clubs... Advice: though shared appartments are pretty cheap, in september there is a fierce competition to get one, when all the students arrive. Prioritize this aspect.

Excellent university for the field of computer science

Engineering, Computer, 2021
Overall
The KIT is without a doubt the top choice (along with TUM) for studying computer science in Germany. The courses are technical and give a very good overview over the topics and the professors are precise and professional. It's fair to say that I did not have a single professor that left a negative impression on me. There is an big focus on a strong mathematical foundation, something that not everyone likes and yet is very helpfull for developing an abstract and analytical way of thinking. There are many classes give programming assignments, so there is also a lot of hands-on practical experience to be had, something many other universities neglect. The only downside is that, because the university is very technical, there is a noticable lack of women on the campus and in the classes.
