I wish I had known...
Any doubts I had about being there (I was very scared and doubting in the beginning) were a waste of time, and every moment during that year was worth its weight in gold.

Definitely stay two semesters if possible. The reason is that, if you're like me, the first will be very much getting used to things- if I had left after that semester I'd have missed out on the best part, and seeing the city go through seasons and weather changes- it's the best way- especially in Vienna- Viennese are conservative and rather cold the weather can get very gray and cold. You need to stay to get the jewel under that exterior.

Read, write, and speak German as much as possible before going. I find that speaking the language gave me a much richer experience- certain things cannot be translated into English. Take a lot of candids of people- not just the Eiffel Tower or some scenery stuff. Go to Berlin if you get the chance- it's under-rated, and it's amazing. Hang out with some Australians. Watch "Kommisar Rex" and "Wetten Das", try not to watch too much "Peep" with your fellow students in the TV room. Go out and drink wine. Learn a few words in Bulgarian (or the random language of your choice). Tell the manly Austrian "heimleiter" you find him attractive EARLIER than a month before you have to leave. Dance a lot. Eat at "Der Mann, der verwoehnt"- but not too much:) Don't take it out on the university workers when you can't find a vending machine near the Hauptuni library. Just keep your mouth shut and get a snickers across the street at the convenient store. Watch soccer. Bring nostalgic things from home and talk about it when you get home sick, but remember you'll will be home sick for this place before you know it.

Vienna University is nice, but unfortunately the international student community is quite quiet there.. But everybody finds friends there. take a language course at the beginning of the semester and you'll find nice people!

Vienna is a great place, I would go back there any time! Just try to make the best out of it, meet many people, travel to the great cities close to Vienna, enjoy the arts and environment of Vienna...! You'll love it! :)
ps. Taking a language course before/at the beginning of the term may help you make some friends there!

“Best experience of studying I've ever had”

Russia, Graduate

Overall
While doing my masters in Russia I won the competition for the semester exchange program in Vienna from October 2018 till February 2019 which has become the major point of my decision to continue my career path abroad. The experience of living and studying in Vienna really gave me an incredicle experience, helped me to improve my English and German skills and allowed me to get to know Austrian mentality, lifestyle, culture, values and traditions. Now I want to talf in details about studying process. Before applying for courses you have an opportunity to review a full description of a course program and professors. Most professors use case-study approach in teaching process. Students are really motivated, they don't cheat on exams and prepare beforehand for exam session in libraries and study-rooms so that it is hard to find any place to study. International department works really good - they provide a lot of events for international students including dancing/sport classes, trips, games, etc.

The academic system was totally different from anything I had ever experienced. I wish I had been better prepared for the change.

Realize before you go that nothing having to do with Uni is centrally located. Be prepared to trek all over town during the first few days getting everything organized!

It is huge, you can easily be lost if you don´t pay attention in the very beginning.

WU-Wien is a great university, specialized in International Trade. It was an Export-Akademie before.

Take time to travel around because Vienna is greatly located : Prag, Budapest, Venice, Milan, Munich, Krakow, etc. And, of course, visit EVERYTHING in Vienne. It's a beautiful city!!
