UPPA doesn't have a student's union so don't expect any on-campus nightlife. In town the main bar's in Pau are the Garage - Irish bar - (the Kitchen next door does good, cheap food), the Gaulway (also Irish), Cafe Russe and other bars along Boulevard des Pyrenees are always popular, but a bit more expensive. There are some clubs outside of the town which is okay if you befriend french/ fellow erasmus students with cars. One big tip: don't rely on taxis in Pau - there's one taxi firm and on average 2 cabs after 11pm for the entire town!

I would like to an internship or directly Ph.D.
Moussa A
Germany, Graduate
Mathematics, 2020
Overall
To whom it may concern,

I am currently a graduate student with double master in Applied Mathematics.

1) Master 2 in mathematics, modeling and simulation at university of Pau-France (2020) with an internship in Optimal Transportation.

2) Master 2 in applied mathematics (rank 1/8 and GPA 4/4) at Lebanese international university (2019) with master thesis in Control of PDEs.

3) Master 1 in Pure Mathematics at Lebanese university with rank 4/15 and GPA 65/100 (Strong knowledge in algebra and good background in geometry, real analysis and topology).

My ambition is to do a (funded) Ph.D. thesis, but if you prefer or see that there would be some skills or qualifications required to pursue your Ph.D. offer (if you have one), I would not have any problems to learn and get ready for that Ph.D. by doing an Internship (or Training ) before, which shows my serious interest, need and motivation toward my goal to be a researcher.

According to that, I am writing you to express my strong interest in doing a Master Thesis or an Internship (I don't know if it would be possible to get one without being enrolled in a master or being a student).

I would like to apply my knowledge and experience, also I would like to extend my knowledge in gaining programming skills such as, finding new methods and models, developing codes to make it into tools for the companies to use it.  Developing solutions for time dependent equations, Artificial intelligence and its application in Machine learning and Deep learning.

For more details or information about my projects and experiences, please find attached my resume, transcripts, description of courses and last two theses.

I have been in France since September 2019 and I will move to Berlin, Germany at the end of November, I am open to relocation inside and outside Europe.

Looking forward to hearing you.

Yours sincerely,
Moussa ATWI

I did spend more than at home but only because I did a lot more. Drinks in bars are the only things that are more expensive than in England.

Personal comments
I didn't like the service I got from Credit Agricole, the administration was time-consuming and most contact with them was frustrating. But this may not be the same with other banks. Do check out costs if you open a french bank account.

Personal spending habits
I generally spent more than I would do at home as I wanted to make the most of my time abroad so tended to go travelling somewhere most weekends. Drinking is pretty expensive but eating out costs about the same as at home.

If you're planning on doing lots of travelling you can buy an under-25's card from the train station that gets you upto 50% discount on any train journey.

Although all the english speakers go to the garage and the boulevard there are a lot of other bars in pau. there is no excuse for only going to 2 bars all year! it is not a place for hardcore clubbers but some nice places to go. there are lots of sports and theatre stuff to get involved in at the uni and a good way to meet french people.
