Clubs: La Palloma; massive diso built in the 1930's as a dance hall; thursday nights are the best. Best bar: "Vela de Negro" (The Black Sheep); just off the top of the Ramblas near the metro "Catalunya". Attracts a high number of young people from all over the world, & also very cheap sangria (although it isnt very strong!). Best bar: "Sherlock Holmes"; located at Placa Reile, a very private bar, traditional with high ceilings and a laid back atmosphere with cheap drinks. Very easy to pass by though, as a door bell has to be rung in front of huge doors. The bar which has about 3 rooms is located up a fleight of 2-storeys! Best restaurant: "Lapaloma"; located near the top of the ramblas at Catalunya metro, lovely & varied food, which is not too expensive either. Also a choice of sitting upstairs by the window & watching the world go by on the ramblas; beautiful. Best night spots for tapas & bars: "Fontana" metro, off the side streets somewhere are alot of small restaurants & bars. Art gallerys: lots of independent art gallerys located in the "Barri Gotic" district; as you are heading to the coast on the Ramblas, it on the left hand side; one feels like a child in a maze. Be careful of muggings though, as it is quite common in these little side streets. Best jazz club: "Harlem Jazz Club", located in the Barri Gotic, but not quite sure where. different music every night, which includes live bands. Lovely atmosphere. Museums; the sex museum on the ramblas; highly recomended.

i could go thru this for hours! The social life was the best thing the city had to offer for sure. Places not to be missed: - Clubs: Sutton (on thursdays), shoko, razzmatazz are the best! - Bars: la champañería (actually can paixano), barceloneta station, amazing and cheapest place ever! Cava glasses for less than 1 euro each and delicious bocadillos (my favourite was smoked salmon with brie), cheap as well. Closes at 22h30 and is crowded as, so u better arrive there early. Other good spots are oveja negra, bosque de las hadas, ciutat comtal... also, a good place to eat is Mercat de Santa Caterina, a food market turned restaurant where they serve many kinds of food... and of course La Boqueria. But the list is truly endless Arts - bcn is filled with this artsy atmosphere, so for the ones who like it there is a lot going on. Museum Picasso, Miro, Macba and CCCB were my favourites.

I just love the district gracia - plaza del sol is really relaxed - it seems if the young generation would rule there - there are really nice bars with good music - another spot in the center (placa catalunya) is the black sheeps - it's a place where you can drink cheap beer or sangria - and it's always stuffed with international students, backpackers, locals(more or less) ... pretty social .... there are sometimes good concerts in the apollo ... they cost around 1500 pst. .... dot is a disco close to placa reial and there is free entrence ... thats always good ... they play differnt music - depends on the day ... nice athomosphere ... best food: close to placa reial - next to the chicken stand - you can eat the best kebab there .... great socializing ... interesting people ...

Hmmmm. Spain is full of neighborhood cafes and bars for all kinds of fun. In Barcelona there are great places to go down near Las Ramblas, the Barri Gotic, etc. The best places are the ones you find with the locals so that there aren't as many tourists. (They seems to taint the atmosphere.) I especially liked a crazy place near my home called the Satanasa. Now the name is a bit dark, but the place was really great. There was also a bar that we would go to by taking the Barceloneta metro line where you could drink cheap wine and tapas, standing room only. Everyone would toss the napkins and whatnot on the floor. But, there were many, many more places with nicer food such as on the wharf and near Placa San Juam, I think.

Barcelona is full of cafes, bars, restaurants, and clubs with various themes, atmospheres, flavors, and price ranges. The city has a great social scene. Students go out late (since supper isn't served until after 9) and then stay out until morning. Popular spots to go out are Maremagnum on the waterfront, a complex of shops, restaurants, and clubs, the restaurants along Passeig Gracia, and the bars around Placa del Sol. Les Bosq des Fades off La Rambla, Cafe d l'Opera on La Rambla, and Euskal Etxea in La Ribera are some places to check out.
