there is no need to speak Dutch to go to Holland, they all speak an amazing English. The hardest thing is to stand hearing the Dutch language which is far from being the most beautiful language in the world;) Apart from that, speaking English with other international students do not especially improve your vocabulary, just your fluency, or easiness. Basically, we just 1000 words, it's a basci English. SO, practice and keep learning by yourself, because you need to be more subtle in your academic papers!

Communication is not a problem in Holland because virtually everyone here understands and speaks a bit of English. Although I still intend to go for dutch classes before finishing my master program because I want maximize the opportunity of studying in Holland, but so far, so good, I am able to learn some basic phrases by interacting with the local people in public places like shops, insides buses e.t.c

I lived in Amsterdam for four months and, unhappily, I could not learn dutch as much as I would have liked. But I took international courses in English. So, classes were given in English and students were english speaking people. In this sense, I love to say that my english level improved very much in this period. In fact, I couldn't believe when I left Amsterdam I could express myself so easily in this language (I even dreamt in English!). I have done my best to keep on improving since then.

The Dutch speak English better than most other European countries I have visited, so it made learning the language a little more difficult considering the natives would rather speak english to you than you speak dutch to them. Still, I found once a Ducth person saw your willingness to learn their language, they were very helpful, patient, and pleased.

I have just learned some basic phrases of Dutch, although I would like to learn more in the future. Especially if I decide to work in Holland. My level of English before coming here was advanced. In Amsterdam I have used English very offten, both in the academical and the social activities. I have improved my fluency and my vocabulary.

Fluency in English communication and writing skills were prerequisites for the MBA at the Universiteit van Amsterdam. Additionally, during the program, my confidence has grown concerning academic writing, comprehension and presentation skills. The everyday interaction with students and professors working on business case studies enhanced my ability to absorb, interpret and assess the most relevant information.
