Housing
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why?
On campus student accommodation is the best option, as you are close to the university as well as the city centre.

Personal comments
Accommodation is arranged for by the university, which makes it really easy for the student. An important decision is whether you go for self catering or catered accommodation. I personally recommend self catering, as you can cook what you are up to and are not bound to eat British food (although it is not that bad as everybody thinks).

Academic
Course recommendations
Courses are pretty high standard and require a very good command of English. International students usually stick to themselves (except American students) as most find it hard to break into the British communities.

Personal comments
Be warned that it is very hard to achieve high grades here. If you have the option to undertake coursework, you should do it since it is a lot tougher in the exam.

Languages
Language of instruction: English
Was learning English a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my English
How much did you improve your English?
My level before: At ease in most situations
My level after: At ease in most situations
Language difficulties
Administrative / Institutional
Personal comments
Generally speaking, I did not experience the "Mancunian accent" at all, most people spoke straight forward British English. Sometimes, though, there was a slight accent/dialect, but easily understandable, especially at university level. However, I expected a much bigger improvement of my language proficiency - at the end it did not really improve a lot.

If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
Once you know the city it gives you more freedom. If you have never been there before, an on-campus accomodation is the best option to meet people easily.

The Accomodation Office has a very good reputation and everytime I had a problem they solved it very quickly. Apartments have been refurbished during last years and their location is excellent.
