Housing
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
The dorms were extremely unkept and small. Homes in Japan are small as it is so an apartment would make things a little easier for living.

The dorm that I stayed at was at a good location. It was close enough to classes that only a 5 minutet bike ride was required. Other than that though it all goes downhill. The dorms were never cleaned. I dont just mean messy, but unsanitary. I had friends that didnt even want to come over because of how dirty it was. Also there is no shower in the dorm. That is fine, but at least provide one in the same building. We were forced to go to other buildings in order to shower. And we were charged for our showers at that. Furthermore, during the holdiay season the showers and heat were shutoff for 5 days. I understand that many students go home during the holiday season but for an exchange student, going home isnt always an affordable option. Overall I was very dissapointed with the living spaces provided to us.

Tsukuba is a pretty small town, so most of the apartments are close to the university just like the the dormitories on the campus, but private apartment is much better equipped than what was offered on the campus.

Housing at Tsukuba University needs renovation, but thanks to wonderful people I met there, it was the best time of my life.

The rooms at the dorm are really small, and 95% of them don't even have a shower in the same building.

Unless you get a room in one of the newer buildings, it's really, really bad, but cheap. The newer buildings are OK for Japanese standarts, but maybe not for Western ones.
