When you live in an environment where your mother tongue doesn't help you, you need to learn to communicate with other people. So, I think this is a good way to learn a language, or to verify and experiment your knowledge.

As I come from India,the language of instruction i School and at the Univarsity was English.I guess I benefitted immensly from that.I think that German is an easy language that is very systematic in its approch.Any one who comes from an Indo-German backgroung shouldn't have problems learing it provided one has the patience and the zeal to do it.

At first it was tempting to talk english, as everyone else wanted to improve their english. Once I started to talk german, I rarely used my english, and it was much easier just to concentrate on one language.
