Try to have between your friends someone who study the same as you. Sometimes the courses are very technical and you understand scarcely anything. If a friend of you goes in the same course both of you can help each other.

German courses are spoken in fast german and it's hard to take anything other than language classes when your german is not really good.

Study throughout the term - it makes things easier at the end. It's hard to do because most courses only have a 'end of term' final, but it would definitely cut down on the amount of work at the end. It could make a big difference at times.
